22 Feb 52 Challenge – Week 7
“Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”
1 John 4:20-21 (NIV)
Sometimes it’s helpful to read a verse or a part of the Bible in a different translation. Eugene Peterson’s translation of the Bible, The Message, does a great job of articulating these verses, especially when it comes to loving God.
“If anyone boasts, ‘I love God,’ and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both.”
1 John 4:20-21 (MSG)
