“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Ephesians 4:22-24 (NIV)

These verses articulate the dual nature of our transformation. On one hand, we are made new because of what Jesus did for us. His death, burial, and resurrection are not only the source of our salvation but also what we need to be changed.

On the other hand, the Bible clearly instructs us to play our part. We are to put off our old (not like Jesus) self. We are to have a new attitude. We are to put on or step into our new self. We can trust God to do his part. He is wildly faithful and dependable. The question for us is, “how am I putting on my new self”?

We should be able to point to habits, intentional practices, and times on our calendars. Consider one thing you can do today to put on your new self.
