“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

Have you ever wanted a fresh start before? Sometimes our lives lead up to places and circumstances where we just wish we could start over. This verse declares that for people who have aligned themselves with Jesus, and accepted his gifts of forgiveness and grace, and been baptized into him—the Bible announces that they are a new creation. The old has gone and the new has come.

Yet, in the midst of this reality, don’t you find the old is always trying to come back? It’s easy to not feel the newness. It’s tempting to think this promise must be for someone else because I want to be new, but all I can see are my old ways winning the day.

The truth is Jesus has made us new through his death, burial, and resurrection. We have the opportunity for complete transformation. And even if we’ve said yes to Jesus in the past, we have a choice to make each day. Will I step into my newness in Jesus or will I choose my old ways.

Which direction will you step in today?
