“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:31-32 (NIV)

Jesus was speaking to a group of religious people who were resting on their laurels. They were more interested in their status and who they were perceived to be than honoring God. Isn’t it ironic that they were on board with the idea of God and being rescued and transformed by his son, but refused to actually do what the son commanded?

Our thoughts about God are not nearly as powerful as our submission and obedience to him. Jesus says here that we will know the truth by holding to his teaching and living the way he taught us. And that journey of obedience leads to freedom.

Do you want to be free from what’s holding you back? Focus on holding to Jesus’ teaching.
