“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’”

Mark 12:29-30 (NIV)

One day a teacher of the law (Jesus described this teacher as “not far from the Kingdom of God”) overheard a discussion Jesus was having and asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” These verses are Jesus’ response. According to Jesus, the primary focus for his followers is to love God with all of ourselves. When we pursue God with all that we’ve got and don’t hold anything back—so much of life seems to fall into place. We’ve got to start with the main thing-loving God more fully each day.
