“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God.”

1 John 3:1-2a (NIV)

We receive so many competing messages about who we are, what our identity is, and who we should be. Let these verses renew your thinking about yourself. You aren’t primarily what you do. You’re more than your income or where you went (or are going) to school. Your primary identity is not who your friends are, your stances on issues, or what people say about you.

By far, the most significantly defining characteristic about you, is that you are a child of God. You have a Heavenly Father that has poured out his love on you, and you are immensely valuable to him. That’s the most important thing about you, that you are loved by God.
