“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

James 4:7-8 (NIV)

Take a second and think about your relationship with God.

What words come to your mind that describe your relationship with him?

Does the word “near” describe it? Nearness, closeness with our Heavenly Father is possible. We can be closer to the divine than anything else. Perhaps this verse gives us a path to being closer to God…submitting ourselves to him and doing our part to resist what ensnares us.

What submitting or resisting do you need to do to come near to God?
