“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 (NIV)

Jesus said these words to his disciples just before he was arrested and crucified. As he was stepping into the very act that overcame this world and all it’s hurts, troubles, and struggles,  he was encouraging his followers (us) that we can have peace because we’re his and he’s done what none of us could do for ourselves—destroy the powers of sin and death that play out all around us. As you work on memorizing Jesus’ words here, spend some time considering what he’s given you and respond with a grateful heart.
